A Vision of the Wild, Guided by Fate…

Orca in Moonlight: A Dream Realized in Paint

Some callings are written into us before we even understand them—pulling us toward a place, a life, a moment that feels like home long before we arrive. Orca in Moonlight is the embodiment of one such calling.

As a child in Ontario, I watched Free Willy and knew—deep in my bones—that one day, I would live among orcas. That knowing carried me west in 2004, to the wild shores of Tofino, where the elusive transient orcas slip through the inky waters, their presence both rare and electrifying. Every encounter with them has been a peak experience, a moment where time dissolves, and only awe remains.

This painting is not drawn from a single sighting but from the dreamlike essence of all of them—the feeling of watching these magnificent beings move through the ocean beneath the glow of a full moon. It is a vision, a memory, and a manifestation all at once. The moonlight spills across the water, illuminating the silent grace of the orca, a creature both of the deep and of legend.

Orca in Moonlight is a tribute to that lifelong pull toward the sea, to the magic of dreams that lead us home, and to the profound beauty of these extraordinary animals.
